Honor Roll Games of the Week: Mar.1 – Mar. 7

Third Annual District Classic – Games delayed Friday, play resumes Saturday @ 10:00am

Georgetown hosts the third annual District Classic this weekend at the Nats Youth Academy, playing host to Bucknell, Brown, Saint Joseph’s, Harvard and Howard. With 14 games taking place over the next three days, there’s plenty of softball action to follow in the nation’s capital. Here’s what to look out for with each team:

Brown: The Bears have 3 Honor Roll alumni on the 2019 squad, with sophomore RHP Grace Ladd looking to build off her impressive freshman season. Making 20 appearances in the circle in 2018, Ladd posted a 2.57 ERA while picking up 2 saves and being named Ivy League Rookie of the Week on April 30th.

Bucknell: The Bison come into the weekend as winners of 3 of their last 4, including a win over fellow Honor Roll program Princeton – a redemption victory 21 years in the making.

Georgetown: The Hoyas have 3 Honor Roll alumni on their roster, including INF/C Mae Forshey. She’s started all 14 games to start her career and currently ranks second on the team in hits (17) and RBIs (7).

Harvard: The Crimson won their 7th Ivy League Title in 2018 and have been picked as the preseason favorite to repeat this year. After picking up two wins in Jacksonville last weekend, Harvard will look to pick up some momentum before heading out west for the Easton Invitational.

Howard: Honor Roll alumni UTIL Maxie Harrington has already appeared in 11 games for the Bison to start out her career, picking up 3 starts and scoring a run in Howard’s most recent win.

Saint Joseph’s: Pitching and fielding have been the keys to the Hawks’ strong start to the season. They’ve allowed only 5 runs in their 4 victories – the highest win total in the month of February for Saint Joseph’s since 2012.

Our prediction: Impressive play from all teams this weekend, but Harvard and Saint Joseph’s put up the best performances and pick up 3 wins each.

DePauw Tigers @ Emory Eagles – 3 game series begins Saturday @ 12:00pm

After a slow start to the 2018 season, DePauw finished as one of the hottest teams in the country by going 13-3 in conference play and winning their second straight NCAC Tournament. This marked the sixth straight year that the Tigers won 13 or more conference games and made their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA DIII Regionals. DePauw kicks off their season Friday at Berry before facing Emory this weekend as they continue their Georgia swing. The Tigers last faced off against the Eagles in 2017, where Emory took the series 2-0. With 3 Honor Roll alumni on the roster this year – IF/OF Caleigh Cramer, IF/OF Katerina Kilgore and P/1B Riley Magoon – the Tigers will look to get revenge and start off 2019 with a few early victories.

Since finishing 7-14 during their first season in 1999, Emory has now posted 25 wins or more in 19 straight seasons. The Eagles are coming off their 15th NCAA tournament appearance after posting a 29-12 overall record – including 15-1 in conference play – and claiming their 8th UAA title since 2010. Their roster includes 5 Honor Roll alumni, including 3 freshmen who already saw the field in the season opener – C/OF Krista Colussi, 1B Mattie Ryan and P Carlin Waddel.

Our prediction: Emory picks up right where they left off two years ago, taking 2 of 3 games against DePauw.
