We’re excited to once again highlight the achievements of several past Headfirst attendees as part of the second installment of our Headfirst Alumni Spotlight. Like you, they were once high school student-athletes who dreamed of not only playing collegiate baseball, but doing so at a top academic school. There are currently thousands of Headfirst alumni pursuing similar dreams, including:
SAM MULROY – C/OF, Princeton Tigers
School: Princeton, Class of 2012
Major: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Honor Roll Camp Attended: California, 2007
Bio: The rare ambidextrous pitcher, Mulroy had a standout career for the Maret School as both a baseball and football player before committing to attend Princeton University in 2008. Over 4 seasons, Sam hit .315 with 25 home runs and was twice chosen as a First-Team All-Ivy Selection. Eventually drafted in the 33rd round, Sam spent several years in the Angels organization and reached the level of AAA.
He now works as the director for Upper School Admission at the Maret School, where he also coaches baseball and football.
KENDALL HELBERT – C, MIT Engineers
School: MIT, Class of 2016
Major: Mechanical Engineering, focus in Product Design
Honor Roll Camp Attended: Long Island 2010 (Sessions 2 & 3), Long Island 2011
Profession: Product Design Engineer at Apple
Bio: A product of Lindbergh High School in St. Louis Missouri, Kendall enjoyed an outstanding high-school career before joining his older brother Justin as a member of the MIT Engineers. A four-year starter behind the plate for MIT, the Engineers garnered two NEWMAC Tournament Championships and two regular season titles during his career. Individually, Kendall recorded over 100 career hits and was named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team in 2016.
After graduating, Kendall accepted a position as a Product Design Engineer with Apple – once an Engineer, always an engineer!
